Application and use

GPRS modem CGU04i is used to create large industrial wireless networks using GSM-GPRS technology. CGU04i is designed to satisfy the most demanding requirements and uses such as: SCADA, dispatch systems, control system interconnection, telemetry, monitoring and data collections from power and energy measuring apparatuses.

Selected applications

  • Energy and power industries - remote control of switches, transformer stations, alternative power sources
  • Heat distribution industry - transfer stations, boiler rooms, heat meters, steam pipelines
  • Water distribution and management industries - water reservoirs, pump stations, sewage water treatment facilities, shafts/wells
  • Petrochemical and gas industries - monitoring of pipelines and regulatory gas stations
  • Transportation and logistics - road infrastructure, road and railway transportation services

Key features

GPRS mode CGU04i is equipped with two independent communication interfaces. One fixed port RS232 and second optional port RS232, RS485, RS422, M-Bus. These ports enable the user to connect controlling and automating machines, computers, PLCs, water meters, etc. Thanks to 5 CIO inputs/outputs, the user may directly monitor and control the relevant devices by using simple technology. Therefore, several different user devices may be connected to a single modem.

CGU04i supports direct transfer via more than 50 industrial protocols over the GPRS network (MODBUS, S-Bus, M-Bus, IEC 870...) without the need for the user to focus on IP addresses necessary for the GPRS network. Further, in some cases the modem serves as a protocol convertor (IEC 101 and 103 to IEC 104 and MODBUS RTU to MODBUS TCP...).

The modem is equipped with mechanisms whose priority is to provide continuous run and reliable and secure data transfer CGU04i also contains a number of servicing and diagnostic functions and detailed log of all activities. All these function may be performed remotely via the GPRS network using the RADWIN software.

CGU04i may be arbitrarily combined with radio modems and Conel IP devices in the AGNES wireless communication system, enabling the user to create large heterogenic communication networks independent of one transfer technology, with the option to utilize backup paths through different media.
